8 września 1968 roku podczas dożynek na Stadionie X-lecia na znak protestu „przeciw tyranii kłamstwa, ogarniającego świat”, podpalił się 60-letni mężczyzna. „Ja, Ryszard Siwiec, zdrów na ciele i umyśle, po długiej walce i rozwadze,postanowiłem zaprotestować przeciw totalnej tyranii zła, nienawiści i kłamstwa opanowującego świat”, tak zaczął swój testament.

and mind, have decided, after a long struggle and consideration, to protest against the total tyranny of evil, hatred and lies that is taking over the world” – this was how he started his last will.
