W 1981 roku grupa pasjonatów pod wodzą Mariana Terleckiego, wówczas 27-letniego scenarzysty i dziennikarza, stworzyła niezależną ekipę filmową działającą pod egidą NSZZ Solidarność. W stanie wojennym ekipa filmowców rejestrowała demonstracje uliczne i spotkania zdelegalizowanej Solidarności. Dzięki zaufaniu opozycji często jako jedyni byli dopuszczani z kamerą na miejsce zdarzeń o znaczeniu historycznym. Dzięki wsparciu Kościoła studio mogło się rozwijać. Od 1989 roku wytwórnia zaczęła funkcjonować pod nazwą Video Studio Gdańsk (VSG). Ekipa wytwórni rejestrowała najważniejsze wydarzenia przełomu ustrojowego lat 1989-1990: zjazd PZPR, pierwsze wolne wybory czy wizytę Lecha Wałęsy w USA.
Porozmawiamy o historii studia, o pracy poza cenzurą i o dystrybucji opozycyjnych filmów w PRL.
In 1981 a group of enthusiasts led by Marian Terlecki, at that time a 27-yearold screenwriter and journalist, created an independent film crew operating under the Polish labour union Solidarity. During the martial law, the crew registered street demonstrations and meetings of banned Solidarity. The trust of the opposition made it possible for the crew to shoot important historical events. Thanks to the support of the Catholic Church studio had the opportunity to develop. Since 1989 the studio started to operate under its current name Video Studio Gdansk (VSG). In the years 1989-1990, the crew registered the most important events of the democratic and economic transformation: the communist party congress, first free elections or the visit of Lech Walesa to the USA. We will talk about the history of Video Studio Gdansk, work beyond censorship and distribution of oppositional films in communist Poland.

The film presents the last moments of the Polish United Workers’ Party in the corridors of the Congress Hall – the portraits of party activists, political scenery, screams of people demonstrating in front of the Palace of Culture. A grotesque portrait of a by-gone era.

Kronika pobytu Jana Pawła II w Trójmieście w czerwcu 1987 roku. Symbolem pielgrzymki był ołtarz papieski, zaprojektowany przez Mariana Kołodzieja w kształcie niedokończonego statku, który przywodził na myśl strajkujących stoczniowców.
The chronicle of the visit of Pope John Paul II in Tricity in June 1987. The symbol of the pilgrimage was an altar designed by Marian Kolodziej in the form of an unfinished ship which served as the symbol of striking shipyard workers.

A unique record of historical talks that led to the end of communism in Poland. The film shows the clash of two worlds – apparatchiks from the Polish United Workers’ Party slowly losing power and oppositionists who will soon seize power in the state.

A film portrait of Stanislaw Stomma, professor, lawyer, columnist of the ’Tygodnik Powszechny’, politician, founder of the ’Znak Association’. In 1976 he was the only one not to approve the amendment of Polish constitution regarding the Alliance with the USSR and leaving the communist party as the state leader.
